A week in photos

London spent another week tormenting occupants with unpredictable weather, perfect for half term. Here's a few bits and pieces from along the way:-

MONDAY

A day of rest, if for no other reason than the weather was not much lending itself to going out and about and everywhere would be crowded as it was half term. Casper spent a lot of time watching the garden and/or sleeping!

TUESDAY

An appointment with Orthotics at the QEH (Queen Elizabeth Hospital) took me home early from work. I just missed a rain flower as attested to by some nearby planters. I was very taken with the crystal skull vodka bottles in a nearby window; less taken with the overflowing ashtray outside the hospital entrance!

WEDNESDAY

Another wet and wild day. I amused myself at lunch building an apple tree (of sorts) and we finally got our World Cup sweep-stake for the office done!

THURSDAY

Flags up in The Mall; left over I suppose from the Household Cavalry presentation of Standards on Wednesday. It was a coffee and treats morning from Alpha (one of the guys who ferries me to and from work; we've known each other so long we're good friends now) - comprising rice-cakes rather than Yum-Yums, so slightly more healthy. I got home to find Casper on 'garden-watch'... as usual!

FRIDAY

Time for the terror that is the pay-day shop. Originating in buying the cat litter stock and taking a taxi home with it, it extends now to a general trip round Woolwich and the purchase of random items. This month books. Kindle eschewed for Dan Brown so Husband can also read it, Hosseini because I thought Mutti and/or my MiL might want to read it and the 'Wolf of Wall Street' because LoveFilm won't rent it to us, it was a tenner for the DVD and the book was free.

SATURDAY

Mutti and I went to Bluewater so she could upgrade her pre-historic phone - I was there to make sure she got the right model and the best deal. I loved the perpetual calendar in John Lewis, the strange locking mechanism in the disabled toilet (so small the wheelchair couldn't turn and I had to go out backwards!) and the 'sand castle' (I suspect it was a model) of a hotel in Dubai.

SUNDAY

Even as dull Sunday's go this one took a head-start. Made good headway into Dan Brown and watched a random T20 cricket match - it wasn't really nice enough to go in the garden... no rain, but no sunshine either.

A week in photos

There was nothing very notable about last week in London, other than the mercurial weather. Here's a few bits and pieces from along the way:-

MONDAY

Penguin and I took a trip to Westminster, mostly to see the statues - but also because it was a nice sunshiney day.

TUESDAY

A rather grey morning to accompany the journey to work; thanks to a traffic jam I did finally manage to get a photograph of the dragon sculpture at a shopping area in the Bermondsey area.

WEDNESDAY

The weather cheered up again for the middle of the week; and Her Majesty was lucky that it didn't rain on her garden party!

THURSDAY

A day of indeterminate weather, sunshine and showers. I went out at lunch (I forgot to take my lunch to work!); my favourite moment was the rather quality looking cigar stubbed out in a coffee cup - that's Mayfair! Another traffic jam allowed me a photo of St George's Circus; a mile from London Bridge (and some other places).

FRIDAY

Another day of mixed weather, some sunshine and some clouds. Grey and cloudy but sunny enough for the cat to take a nap in a sun puddle. A trip into the garden to check on the greenhouses and the rose bushes from our wedding last summer. The roses are confused - there are flowers and hips - undecided on Summer on Autumn?!

SATURDAY

It started the day raining, quite seriously. It cleared up by late morning, enough for the wildlife to come out to amuse the cat. By late afternoon it was sunshine all the way!

SUNDAY

Enough rain overnight an in the early morning to have a puddle photo (aided and abetted by poor drainage). The good weather carried to the evening, for a lovely sunset and a cross cat who didn't see why the curtains had to be shut whilst he was still busy watching the wildlife; he made a little hole in the curtains so he could continue his garden watch!

A week in photos

A selection of random photos to give a taste of what I was up to last week:-

On Sunday I went to spend a couple of days with my Mum (recently returned from Cuba). My mum has a lovely colour co-ordinated kitchen; with some cute hearts hanging from the door handles. She also has quite a lot of lovely things that have come back with her from various travels (check my Instagram feed for more pictures).

I had the last day of annual leave of the calender year to use up before the end of April, so I had Tuesday off. Kitten-K kept me company whilst napping in sun-puddles; he was sulking because Husband and I were taking up the bed playing Xbox.

Wednesday (just for once) when I'm back in the office the weather became vile. The threat of fog was not just mist but actual fog. I never checked but I'm sure there were delays on flights into City Airport and I dare say that the Woolwich Ferry wasn't running either.

Thursday brought more grim weather (which lasted pretty much the entire day) - certainly into the evening rush-hour which was complicated by a situation near the Blackwall Tunnel which had resulted in it being closed for nearly the entire day and therefore jamming up all other major routes and the Peninsula.

After fog, rain. Big Ben is out there somemwhere.

Friday was time for my monthly coffee morning with fellow members of my local MS Branch. Good fun (and coffee) is always on the menu, and having missed a couple this year it was great to catch up with everyone. We meet near the mainline station which isn't in the town centre (known as Maritime Greenwich). This means I hope the DLR from Greenwich to Cutty Sark to indulge in a little retail therapy... Waterstone's is right by the station! I saw this advert for an exhibit running up at the Observatory (something about Steam Punk'd) and came home to another advert in my inbox!

Saturday brought a much needed day of rest. Slumming the house (being quiet in the morning as Husband had been out playing snooker the night before). Kitten-K and I were keeping an eye on the garden comings and goings and generally vegging out.

More garden watching on Sunday (not quite enough sunshine to tempt me out to do the weeding). Miserable magpie (go away and find a mate you rotten bird); one for sorrow, two for joy...

As it was Star Wars day (May 4th be with you) we spent the afternoon watching Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. I don't care what George Lucas (or anyone else) says, I'm a child of the seventies and that is the first Star Wars film. If we'd got up earlier we might have managed more films. Bonus fact: my Husband owns at least six copies of this film (and its friends V & VI); DVD, remastered DVD and Blu-Ray (and three video versions). Again, I blame George Lucas.
